UMPSA celebrates the success of MASUM and AUG 2024 athletes
PEKAN, 19 June 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) celebrated the success of athletes and officials who represented the Malaysian contingent at the ASEAN University Games (AUG), along with outstanding athletes who won medals in the recent MASUM 2024 Sports Carnival.
The appreciation ceremony took place at the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor's Friendly Session with MASUM & AUG 2024 Athletes at the Banquet Hall, Tun Razak Chancellery, UMPSA Pekan.
Representing the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Ruslim Mohamed.
Also in attendance were the General Manager of the Student and Alumni Affairs Department, Haryani Abdullah, and the Director of the Sports and Culture Centre, Mohd Aznorizamin Haji Ismail.
Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Ruslim emphasized that success in sports is crucial for the holistic development of students.
"I am very proud to see UMPSA students excelling not only in academics but also demonstrating exceptional performance in sports at the international level.
"The motivation among the athletes is high, and we are confident after seeing their preparations.
“Our task now is to provide them with full support so they can deliver their best performance in Surabaya," he stated.
Four UMPSA athletes have been selected to represent Malaysia at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) in Surabaya Malang, Indonesia from 25 June to 6 July 2024. UMPSA students Syahmi Haziq Hishamuddin, Muhammad Faiz Abdul Rahman, and Thye You Hei will participate in the Men's Handball event, while Muhammad Nazrisham Yassim will compete in Pencak Silat. Senior Youth and Sports Officer, Nur Adam Maximillian, has been selected as the Handball team manager.
The ceremony also honoured outstanding athletes from the MASUM Sports Carnival and Varsity Track & Field (VTF). A total of 11 medal winners from sports such as Pencak Silat and Taekwondo were recognized for their achievements at the MASUM Sports Carnival 2024. National athletic athlete, Nurul Ashikin Hussin, was also acknowledged.
