3,472 UMP students receive student devices
KUANTAN, 30 October 2022 - A total of 3,472 students of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) received student devices in stages through the Keluarga Malaysia Student Device Programme, which is a government initiative to assist students from the B40 group in ensuring that their study process runs smoothly.
Deputy Secretary General (Management and Development), Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Datuk Dr. Mohd Zabri Yusoff, who was present to deliver the devices to students, hoped that students make the best use of the utility.
He said that hopefully this allocation could benefit and encourage students to be more successful in their respective fields of study.
“Attentive to the welfare of students, various initiatives are introduced from time to time by the government.
“This includes a 20 per cent reduction in tuition fees for the First Academic Semester of 2021/2022, introducing the Keluarga Malaysia Menu at a price as low as RM3.50, and the empowerment of the Student Food Bank initiative,” he said during the Distribution Ceremony of Keluarga Malaysia Student Device Initiative and the Closing Ceremony of UMP Counselling Month at UMP Gambang Campus.
He further explained, most recently MoHE has partnered with the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD) to organise Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales specifically for HEI students.
“Likewise, another new initiative of MoHE is the Keluarga Malaysia’s Mahasiswa Sulung Development Programme, better known as SULUNG.
“The Keluarga Malaysia Student Device initiative has been distributed in seven locations, namely Selangor, Terengganu, Sabah, Melaka, Johor, Pulau Pinang and Kelantan,” he said.
He also had the opportunity to visit UMP Campus Pantry which is an initiative by UMP and Yayasan UMP to provide various assistance, incentives and initiatives to help students.
Meanwhile, UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin said, this initiative from the government is most definitely a good and meaningful news for the students who receive this assistance.
“The devices are owned by the students for them to use until graduation and can also be used after graduation.
“Meanwhile, through Yayasan UMP, various assistance is also provided, including Excellence Incentives, UMP Scholarships, Laptop Assistance, UMP Campus Pantry, Zakat Assistance for Muslim students, Subsistence Assistance for non-Muslim students, Disaster Assistance and many others,” he said.
Also taking place was the distribution of the B40 Student Education Incentive, the Student Excellence Incentive and the B40 Student Laptop Assistance to student representatives to be utilised by 450 recipients.
Also held was the awards ceremony for the Infographic Poster Design winner in conjunction with the Closing Ceremony of UMP Counselling Month 2022 organised by the Sejahtera Centre in an effort to raise public awareness about the importance of caring for one’s mental health.
Also present were the Director of Industry and Community Collaboration Division, Department of Higher Education who is also a member of the UMP Board of Directors, Dato’ Mohd Sharil Abdullah and the Director of Citation and Infometric Centre, Department of Higher Education, Ts. Noor Hapipah Samat.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, Registrar/Chief Operating Officer of UMP, Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim and representative of the UMP Student Representative Council (MPP), Ahmad Fahmi Fazli.
