UMPSA raises funds to aid Palestinian students
PEKAN, 17 November 2023 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, presented a donation of RM15,000 to Yasin Y. Albarqouni.
Yasin is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP) and is originally from Palestine. This contribution reflects a compassionate gesture towards the student's circumstances.
During the session, Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie also had the opportunity to inquire about the latest developments regarding Yasin's family and gather information on the ongoing conflict in Palestine since October 7th.
According to Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie, this donation is the outcome of a fundraising initiative initiated by the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) and UMPSA Foundation.
The campaign has been ongoing since October and involved contributions collected not only from members of the UMPSA community but also from the wider public.
Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present the university community's donation to Yasin and continues to be committed in providing ongoing opportunities for the public to contribute and assist Yasin in his fundraising efforts.
He added that these efforts will be continued to support Yasin and his family with the aim to alleviate the burden they are facing and praying for the preservation of the land of Palestine.
"Furthermore, UMPSA is committed in supporting Yasin during his time on campus to ensure the continuity of his studies without disruption.
"Concurrently, expressing concern for the plight of the Palestinian people, UMPSA has successfully raised a total of RM52,000.00.
“It was through contributions totalling RM30,000.00 were made by UMPSA subsidiaries, with an additional RM22,000.00 successfully gathered within the university community for the people of Palestine," he stated.
Meanwhile, Yasin states that his family, consisting of both parents, a wife, a sibling, and a child, are currently at the Rafah border.
He aspires to bring his family to Malaysia, given that he is currently pursuing his studies at UMPSA.
Yasin also expresses his appreciation to the UMPSA Foundation and all Malaysians who contributed to making this donation possible.
In attendance were the Dean of IPS, Professor Ts. Dr. Che Ku Mohammad Faizal Che Ku Yahya; the Senior Manager of IPS, Abd Rahman Haji Safie; and the Director of the Corporate Communication Centre (PKK), Mimi Rabita Haji Abd Wahit.
