UMPSA students foster volunteerism by participating in Bakti Madani programme
PEKAN, 21 February 2025 – A total of 50 students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) are participating in the Bakti Madani Programme, which runs from 21 to 24 February.
The Official Opening Ceremony of the Bakti Madani programme was officiated by the Member of Parliament for Pekan, Dato’ Sri SH Mohmed Puzi SH Ali.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, and a representative from the Student Affairs Division, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, Muhammad Najmi Marcelo Abdullah.
According to Dato’ Sri SH Mohmed Puzi, this programme is a manifestation of our collective concern in shaping a more harmonious and united society.
“Rooted in the values of family as its foundation, this programme serves not only as an interaction platform between students and the community but also as a bridge to strengthen bonds among us all.
“Indeed, this effort aligns perfectly with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises humanity, knowledge, and social well-being,” he stated.
The Bakti Madani programme is one of three high-impact initiatives under Siswa Aspirasi Rakyat (SASAR KPT) by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
This initiative involves student volunteerism, with the participation of 1,600 students from public universities and 3,200 community members across the country.
With the theme Empowering Students Towards Community Development, the programme aims to nurture students with global leadership values and a strong sense of service to the people.
According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, this programme provides a platform for students to contribute to society, strengthen university-community relations, and instil leadership values and soft skills among students.
“I hope that students will take this experience as meaningful learning and as a catalyst for greater volunteerism efforts in the future.
“We aim to produce a generation of more compassionate and responsible students towards society,” he remarked.
Among the activities conducted throughout the programme include communal work, entrepreneurship workshops, student tutoring sessions, health screenings, sports and cultural activities, and a foster family programme involving 25 families in Kampung Peramu Jaya.
