2 UMPSA lecturers represent Malaysia at TVET 4.0 Programme in Singapore

PEKAN, 31 March 2026 – Two senior lecturers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) have brought pride to the nation after being selected to represent Malaysia at the Singapore–Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) Joint Training Programme titled ‘TVET 4.0: Digital Technology for Industry Integration’, which was recently held in Singapore.

They are the Director of Flexible Learning and Micro-Credential (FLEXMC), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Awanis Romli, and the Head of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Graduate Engineering & Technological Business School (GET-BS), Faculty of Industrial Management, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Lee Chia Kuang.

The selection of both lecturers at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) level reflects recognition of their expertise and contributions in the fields of higher education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The prestigious programme, a collaboration between the Government of Singapore, the Colombo Plan Staff College, and Temasek Polytechnic, brought together participants from 16 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

It focused on strengthening leadership in TVET digital transformation through exposure to Industrial Revolution 4.0 technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT), data analytics, and automation.

Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to lecture sessions, interactive discussions, and visits to advanced smart facilities in Singapore.

Among the key aspects emphasised were digital pedagogy, smart campus development, industry integration, and future skills frameworks.

The programme also emphasised elements of green-digital convergence, techno-entrepreneurship, and the strengthening of collaboration between industry and academia.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias said that the participation proves the university’s capability in producing academic staff who are not only excellent at the national level, but also recognised on the international stage.

“Involvement in programmes such as this opens up opportunities for the sharing of knowledge and best practices in the field of TVET, particularly in addressing the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

“It is also in line with UMPSA’s aspiration to strengthen flexible education, expand the implementation of smart campuses, and ensure that its graduates remain relevant and globally competitive,” she said.

This participation aligns with UMPSA’s commitment to strengthening educational innovation and producing graduates who are competitive at the global level.

In fact, the experience gained is expected to strengthen the implementation of flexible learning, enhance smart campus capabilities, and drive more innovative and high-impact teaching and learning approaches at the university.
