UMPSA strengthens community engagement through ‘LeAdventure Camp’ empowering 260 young leaders

KUANTAN, 11 April 2026 — In line with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah’s (UMPSA) aspiration to cultivate holistic graduates and contribute meaningfully to community development, the ‘LeAdventure Camp: Excellence Leadership Training Camp’ was successfully organised through a strategic collaboration between the Mandarin Language Society (MLS), Centre for Modern Languages (CML), UMPSA, and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Pei Chai, Kuantan.

The programme was initiated following a request from the Headmistress of SJK(C) Pei Chai, Ng Sok Pui, reflecting the strong trust placed in UMPSA’s expertise in leadership development and community engagement.

The camp was coordinated by, a Mandarin Language Teacher from the CML, UMPSA, Kang Mei Feng who also serves as the Advisor of the Mandarin Language Society (MLS). 

The programme was implemented under her guidance in collaboration with members of the society. 

The role of Programme Director was undertaken by student leader Tan Khai Xuan from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology, who led the MLS student organising team in the planning and execution of the camp.

Through their collective leadership, effective coordination and close liaison between UMPSA and SJK(C) Pei Chai were successfully carried out, ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme.

A total of 260 primary school student leaders, comprising prefects, librarians, and class monitors from Year 4 to Year 6, participated in the one-day camp. 

The programme was carefully designed to nurture leadership qualities from an early age, with emphasis on essential competencies such as teamwork, effective communication, active listening, and self-discipline. 

This initiative reflects UMPSA’s ongoing commitment to community empowerment and the development of future leaders through impactful educational outreach programmes.

The programme was further strengthened by the participation of two invited speakers, Chia Shen Thye from Eagle Vision Education Resources and Mr. Leong Boon Tik from Taylor’s University. 

Their insightful sharing sessions, grounded in real-life experiences and practical perspectives, provided valuable exposure and motivation to the participants. 

In addition, the active involvement of 55 teachers from SJK(C) Pei Chai played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the programme.

The camp commenced with a registration session, followed by engaging ice-breaking activities designed to foster interaction and teamwork among participants. 

Students were subsequently divided into groups to undertake a series of structured team-building activities, including group identity creation through flag design and team cheers. 

Core modules such as ‘Be A T.E.A.M.’ and ‘Be A L.E.A.D.E.R.’ were delivered, complemented by interactive components including a large-scale station game and the ‘Crossing the Bridge’ challenge. 

These activities provided experiential learning opportunities, enabling participants to apply leadership concepts in practical and collaborative settings.

The programme concluded with a closing ceremony featuring prize presentations and the distribution of tokens of appreciation, followed by a reflection session where participants shared their insights and learning outcomes. 

Overall, the programme successfully achieved its intended objectives and exemplified UMPSA’s commitment to fostering community engagement, educational excellence, and the development of a new generation of responsible, resilient, and visionary young leaders.
