DRB-HICOM unit, UMPSA to drive industry-academia cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB‑HICOM Bhd's subsidiary Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (Deftech) has inked a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al‑Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) to strengthen industry-academia cooperation.

Deftech said the MoC provides a framework for research and development, academic collaboration and selected academic programmes.

Both parties aim to strengthen knowledge transfer, support local talent development and align academic research with industry and national requirements.

Deftech chief executive officer Mohammad Shanaz Mohammad Shees said the company sees itself as a long-term partner to academic institutions in translating research into real, operational capability.

"Our collaboration with UMPSA reflects a shared commitment to practical innovation, national resilience and talent development," he said in a statement.

UMPSA vice chancellor Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias said the collaboration underscores the importance of aligning academic expertise with real industry needs.
