Muhammad Arif wins WorldSkills Malaysia Youth represents country in Digital Construction

PAYA BESAR, 18 November 2022 - Alumnus of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Muhammad Arif Irfan A’ali Zaini, who has just completed his Diploma of Civil Engineering, won the WorldSkills Malaysia Youth (WSMB) in Digital Construction organised by the Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources.

With the victory, Muhammad Arif brought home RM2,500 in cash, medal and certificate, qualifying him to represent Malaysia at the world level in 2024 in Lyon, France.

Two other UMP Civil Engineering Degree alumni successfully obtained the Certificate of Excellence, namely Chu Zin Kai and Aidil Akmal Abdul Rahim.

According to Muhammad Arif, the field of Digital Construction has a lot of great impact in a development.

“Among them are being able to save time, reduce problems and increase the efficiency of a project.

“All consultants from various fields are involved in carrying out development projects, including architecture, structural, mechanical and electrical,” he said.

He was grateful and happy with this victory and did not expect to be announced as a winner in the competition.

However, he cannot be comfortable with his ability since he has not yet achieved the minimum score to enable him to get a gold medal in this competition.

He added that the WSMB scoring system uses a minimum scoring method to qualify for a medal and the scoring range is based on the international standard of Worldskill Competition Information System (CIS).

Through this system, scoring is divided into four levels, namely Certificate of Excellence, bronze medal, silver medal and gold medal.

He said his efforts were worthwhile when he completed his training within two weeks with UMP lecturers in charge of ensuring the highest scores in the competition.

In addition, he underwent training with other UMP participants to increase his knowledge and had the opportunity to exchange ideas in completing assignments.

In order to prepare to represent Malaysia in 2024, he who is currently serving at UMP Holdings is expected to undergo one year of training with instructors focusing on obtaining high scores in the competition.

WSMB is a national level competition organised to recognise the superior skills of youth in the field of TVET.

A total of seven participants passed the pre-qualification screening stage in the final competition in the field of Digital Construction.
