UMPSA Kilau Volunteer Squad extends aid to Putra Heights gas pipeline fire victims

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 April 2025 – The Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Kilau volunteer squad recently went to Putra Heights Mosque, which has been designated as the Putra Heights Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) for victims of the gas leak fire incident.

The Kilau Squad was present to provide moral support and essential supplies to affected victims, relief personnel, and volunteers at the centre.

This aid mission aimed to ease the burden of affected families by distributing basic necessities and offering words of encouragement.

The programme is part of UMPSA’s commitment to helping communities in need.

The fire victims expressed gratitude and were moved by the concern shown by the volunteer squad.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA) had identified four UMPSA students with registered addresses in Putra Heights, but checks confirmed that none were directly affected by the disaster area.

“JHEPA, together with the Students’ Representative Council (MPP), will continue to monitor in case there are any students who might be affected.

“As of today, a total of 35 members of the UMPSA Kilau Volunteer Squad have participated in the Skuad Ihsan MADANI initiative by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), involving students from the Malaysian Universities Volunteer Council (MASKUM), to help alleviate the burden borne by victims since the incident,” he said.

UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, also expressed appreciation for the volunteers who were willing to sacrifice their time and energy, especially while many were still on holiday celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri with their families.

She believes that with the help of the volunteers, who contributed not only manpower but also received support from various agencies provided valuable experience for both staff and students in serving the community and the nation.
