Tong Hui Shan receives UMPSA Holdings Excellence Award

GAMBANG, 25 October 2024 – “When I started my first semester about four years ago, I almost gave up as I had to adapt to the new norm of online learning due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“However, I am grateful that those challenging times have passed, and I was able to experience a normal campus life.

“This, in turn, restored my happiness and enthusiasm to continue succeeding in my studies,” said Tong Hui Shan, 24, a graduate of the 19th Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Convocation Ceremony, held here yesterday.

Tong, who is also the recipient of the UMPSA Holdings Excellence Award, shared that after the pandemic, she actively participated in various co-curricular activities, including the Japanese Language Club, volleyball, and the university choir team.

She felt that involvement in co-curricular activities was not merely a way to fill her free time but also helped to boost her self-confidence, develop her hidden talents, and nurture a spirit of teamwork among students.

She explained that her time at UMPSA gave her new experiences in life.

“Although I was busy with co-curricular activities, I always prioritised my studies and am grateful to have consistently received the Dean’s List Award and Best Academic Achievement.

“Additionally, the facilities provided at UMPSA and the lecturers, who are experts in their respective fields, helped me and my friends gain a deeper understanding of the subjects taught,” she added.

Tong is a graduate of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Materials Technology programme from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI).

She achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.92, qualifying her for a First-Class Honours degree.

She is now pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy at UMPSA and hopes to travel the world conducting research that benefits the development of society.
