Transition class student Nur Zurlaikha wins Dimension Sdn. Bhd. Excellence Award at UMPSA

GAMBANG, 26 October 2024 – Nur Zurlaikha Mohammad Shaffee, 25, who was once a transition class student, has proven that she can succeed, earning the Dimension Sdn. Bhd. Excellence Award at the 19th Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Convocation Ceremony today.

The graduate of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Chemistry with Honours received the award presented by the Pro-Chancellor of UMPSA, His Royal Highness Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, during the first session.

Nur Zurlaikha was a transition class student during her primary school years.

She shared that she was a student who struggled to concentrate and took longer to understand lessons.

“Although my results during secondary school were not excellent, despite my best efforts, I never gave up.

“My journey changed when I entered the diploma level, where I successfully discovered more effective learning techniques that allowed me to focus and develop a passion for studying.

“Upon continuing my studies at the degree level at UMPSA, I maintained these learning techniques while improving my attitude and motivation to continue acquiring knowledge with lecturers and friends at UMPSA,” she added.

Throughout her time at UMPSA, Nur Zurlaikha was also actively involved in various co-curricular activities and associations.

She shared that she held the position of Activity Executive for the Youth of Strength and Happiness (YOSH) MyFundAction Volunteer Programme.

“I was assigned to plan activities for children affected by flooding in Temerloh.

“I also participated in various co-curricular activities offered by the university, such as the Archery Club, Mental Health Club, Get Ready to Work Club, and Ethics and Civilisation Club.

“Through my involvement, I indirectly developed soft skills within myself through the activities and tasks given,” she said.

She further explained that her involvement not only strengthened her ability to work in teams but also enabled her to develop leadership qualities and the ability to adapt to various situations.

“Throughout my studies, I never felt deprived because I believe that UMPSA offers excellent facilities, including well-equipped laboratories and a library that provides various reference resources.

“In terms of learning, the lecturers at UMPSA are very experienced in their fields and are committed to helping students succeed not only academically but also in co-curricular activities.

“The teaching methods used by the lecturers are also very effective in helping students gain a deeper understanding of subjects,” she added.

In addition, she stated that practical exposure closely related to the industry is also provided, which is very useful in preparing students for their future careers.

She also shared that the learning environment at UMPSA is highly conducive, with surroundings that support both academic and personal growth.

“The facilities provided by UMPSA have greatly enhanced my learning experience, making it an ideal place for me to achieve my academic dreams and strengthen skills relevant to the industry.

“I am currently working as a Laboratory Technician at Cargill Palm Products Sdn. Bhd. in Klang and aspire to build a successful career in the field I studied.

“I aim to apply the knowledge and skills I have gained throughout my studies to contribute meaningfully to the company and the industry,” she said.

In addition, she mentioned that she hopes to repay the sacrifices of her family and educators who have supported her academic journey.

“I hope to play a role in contributing to the nation’s development and inspiring the younger generation to continue striving for success.

“My family has always inspired me to move forward, while the lecturers at UMPSA provided invaluable guidance, and my friends became the ones with whom I shared joys and struggles throughout my studies.

“All of this has been the main driving force in my life, ensuring that I do not give up easily in achieving the dreams I aspire to,” she said.
