49 UMPSA researchers named among World's Top 5% Scientists

PEKAN, 7 August 2026 - Forty-seven researchers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) have been listed in the World's Top 5% Scientist ranking based on the 2025 SciRank Global Registry. The prestigious recognition evaluates the achievements of scientists worldwide using research data from the OpenAlex database.

The achievement demonstrates the ability of UMPSA researchers to compete internationally by producing high-quality research and publishing consistently, with significant citation impact across a wide range of disciplines.

The recognition also strengthens UMPSA's standing as a technical and technological university with a strong record in research, innovation and technology transfer, in line with its aspiration to produce high-impact research that benefits industry, society and the nation.

The 49 researchers represent a range of academic disciplines. Fourteen are from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA), eight from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), six from the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA), five from the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering Technology (FTKKP), four from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE), three from the Faculty of Computing (FK), three from the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), three from the Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI), and one from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (PSM).

The recognition reflects UMPSA's strong research culture, which continues to be developed through strategic collaboration with industry and academic institutions in Malaysia and abroad, as well as research that addresses current challenges.

UMPSA Vice-Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias said the achievement recognised the dedication and commitment of UMPSA researchers to producing high-quality work that contributes to national development and the global community.

"This success enhances the university's international reputation and demonstrates the ability of UMPSA researchers to compete in an increasingly competitive global research environment.

"The achievement is the result of sustained efforts by UMPSA academics to cultivate research excellence, strengthen collaboration with strategic partners in Malaysia and abroad, and produce research that benefits society.
"UMPSA will continue to strengthen an innovative, high-impact research ecosystem that develops more world-class researchers and contributes to advances in technology, industry and public well-being," she said.

She also expressed her appreciation to all researchers who had brought distinction to the university through excellence in scholarly publishing and research impact, earning international recognition.

The achievement is expected to encourage UMPSA academics to intensify their research, innovation and high-quality scholarly publishing activities, while increasing the university's visibility in global rankings and recognition programmes.

The recognition also reinforces UMPSA's commitment to advancing high-impact research that supports technological development, strengthens the national innovation ecosystem and meets the needs of industry and society at both national and global levels.
