Spirit of independence fosters unity
PEKAN, 20 August 2021 - “We need to be grateful for this independence and we need to work together to maintain it.
“Unity is the main pillar in our lives today that needs to be maintained and nurtured for the prosperity of the country.
“We need to be united in doing our job, especially in leading this university,” said the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff.
He delivered a speech when launching the UMP National Month Celebration organised by the Registrar’s Office, held online on UMPMalaysia’s Facebook recently.
He also hoped that UMP associates would be united and have a spirit of love and respect for each other.
“With this spirit, we need to ‘Move Together’ in going in the same direction and achieving the same goals for the success and excellence of the university.
Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar thanked all UMP associates who remained enthusiastic about celebrating independence despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, a knowledge sharing session titled ‘Independence and Nationality’ was held by the Director of the Institute of Civilisation and Strategic Studies (ITKAS) UMP, Dato’ Associate Professor Dr. Wan Ahmad Fauzi Wan Husain.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Dr. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rosli Hainin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli. The programme was attended by almost 500 UMP associates.
UMP associates are also encouraged to raise Jalur Gemilang and Pahang state flag at their premises to enliven the national month celebration.
During the month of independence, UMP organised various programmes including Merdeka Infographic Competition, Click@Merdeka Photography Competition, Decorated Car Competition, ITKAS Merdeka Discourse: Kepimpinan Tun Abdul Razak dan Masa Depan Malaysia, Jom Tanya Pakar Kemerdekaan dan Inspirasi Merdeka.
