UMP ranked 301-400 in THE Impact Rankings 2023
KUANTAN, 2 June 2023 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) is ranked 301-400th best out of 1,591 universities worldwide and seventh best in Malaysia in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings announced recently.
UMP is listed in seven Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for SDG1: No Poverty (101-200), SDG4: Quality Education (301-400), SDG6: Clean Water and Sanitation (101-200), SDG7: Affordable and Clean Energy (53), SDG9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (401-600), SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (201-300) and SDG17: Partnership for the Goals (101-200) which demonstrates the university’s good relationship with various parties and levels including the community and industry.
According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, in an effort to achieve the Sustainable Campus Development goal based on the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025, the university has focused on the progress of sustainable campus development.
“This year, the Sustainable Campus Initiative will be accelerated with several plans to reduce the impact of transportation on the environment and the Campus Crop Irrigation and Campus Afforestation will also be carried out through Sustainable UMP Smart Irrigation Systems research.
“In addition, various efforts that are the main agenda of the university will continue to be implemented to ensure energy- and resource-saving practices such as reducing the use of treated water through the utilisation of water-efficient equipment, replacing the existing lamps with energy-saving lamps in stages and saving electricity including carbon emission reduction targets,” he said.
His team would always strive to strengthen the culture of sustainable practices at the university to protect the environment and contribute to sustainable development.
UMP is determined to achieve its carbon-neutral target by 2050 and has introduced the UMP Carbon Neutral Roadmap based on four phases of carbon reduction in stages.
The main goal of THE Impact Ranking is to identify the impact of universities on society based on the success of institutions in implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the United Nations (UN) to achieve a better and more sustainable future by 2030.
