UMPSA and MBOT align technology education with industry needs

PEKAN, 21 July 2026 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) is strengthening its strategic relationship with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) to advance technology programmes and increase professional recognition across the university community.

UMPSA Vice-Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias received an MBOT delegation led by its President, Professor Dato' Ts. Ir. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, during a courtesy visit to UMPSA Pekan.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs) Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Yusoh was also present.

The meeting provided an important platform for both parties to exchange views and discuss strategic initiatives to strengthen the technology education ecosystem. The discussions also focused on ensuring that UMPSA's academic programmes remain relevant to technological developments, industry needs and professional standards.

Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah said close collaboration between higher education institutions and professional bodies such as MBOT was essential to ensure graduates possessed the competencies, skills and professional recognition required by industry and the global employment market.

"UMPSA is committed to ensuring that its academic programmes remain relevant and responsive to current industry needs.

"Our strategic relationship with MBOT creates further opportunities to develop technology talent, broaden professional recognition and enhance graduate employability.

"Through this collaboration, we hope that more UMPSA staff and graduates will gain the professional recognition they deserve, further strengthening the university's reputation as a leading TVET institution in Malaysia," she said.

The discussions also reviewed the current number of UMPSA staff who have received professional recognition from MBOT and the continuing effort to expand professional registration and recognition throughout the university community.

Key items included accreditation for technology-based programmes, aligning academic programmes with the requirements of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and introducing group registration for UMPSA graduates as Graduate Technologists or Qualified Technicians.

These initiatives are expected to add value for UMPSA graduates through industry-recognised professional credentials while improving their competitiveness in the employment market.

Professor Dato' Ts. Ir. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim welcomed UMPSA's commitment to advancing technology and TVET education, describing the university as one of the institutions actively supporting Malaysia's technology talent development agenda.

He expressed hope that the partnership would continue to grow through professional development programmes, academic accreditation and competency recognition initiatives benefiting staff, students and graduates.

The strategic partnership between UMPSA and MBOT supports the university's aspiration to produce competitive graduates with the knowledge, skills and professional recognition required by industry, the nation and the global market, while advancing technical higher education and TVET in Malaysia.
