UMPSA–KotaSAS TMB organise My Green Community Day to empower local community sustainability

KUANTAN, 25 January 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), in collaboration with KotaSAS, Tanah Makmur Berhad (TMB), organised My Green Community Day in an effort to enhance community awareness and participation in environmental sustainability practices at Tasek Commercial Center, KotaSAS.

Various engaging educational activities were conducted to raise public awareness on the importance of environmental conservation, including SDG Games, Adopt Your Plant, a Colouring Competition, and a DIY workshop on producing soap from used cooking oil.

The programme, which began at 8:30 am, was managed by 30 student volunteers from the Eco Nexus Club and UMPSA staff.

According to the Director of the Sustainability Development Centre UMPSA, Dr. Suhaidah Hussain, organising such programmes serves as an effective platform to educate the community on sustainable practices in a relaxed and interactive manner.

“This programme also supports KotaSAS in implementing the Green Living Index Project, a Sustainability Metrics Initiative for Eco-Friendly practices among the local community.

“More interestingly, this edition also highlighted upcycling initiatives by Eco Nexus Club students, including the production of plant pots from used beverage bottles that were modified and repurposed as planting media,” she said.

She also expressed her appreciation to the KotaSAS community for enlivening the programme with encouraging participation in all activities organised.

“Not forgetting our strategic partner, KotaSAS, Tanah Makmur Berhad (TMB), for inviting the UMPSA Sustainability Development Centre to collaborate in this programme together with the Eco Nexus Club,” she said.

She added that this strategic effort forms part of the sustainability agenda, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the university’s commitment to community engagement and environmental awareness empowerment.

“I hope programmes such as this will continue to serve as effective platforms to educate the community, especially children, to better appreciate and protect the environment,” she said.

One of the visitors, Farieza Ashikin Ahmad Shukri, 34, said that the programme had a positive impact on her children as they not only enjoyed themselves but also gained new knowledge on the importance of environmental care through the activities provided.

“I also hope that similar programmes can be organised again in the future,” she said.
