UMPSA pioneers IOC, strengthens digital ecosystem and campus innovation

PEKAN, 6 May 2026 — Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its Digital Transformation Agenda through the organisation of UMPSA X MAPITA Digital Day 2026 held in conjunction with the Public University ICT Directors Council Meeting at Dewan Cendekia Siswa, UMPSA Pekan.

Officiating the programme was the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias, who expressed the university’s commitment towards empowering digital culture and supporting aspirations towards a smart campus.

According to her, the organisation of the digital day is not merely a technology exhibition platform, but also a manifestation of the university’s determination to develop a comprehensive digital ecosystem encompassing infrastructure, data integration, and cybersecurity.

“Digital transformation has now become the pulse of university excellence, and it must be strengthened through the use of modern technologies as well as efficient and secure data management.

“UMPSA also places emphasis on campus security through the implementation of smart surveillance initiatives, including the phased installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras throughout the campus,” she said during her speech at the ceremony.

In addition, the university has developed an Intelligent Operation Centre (IOC) at UMPSA Pekan as an integrated control centre that combines technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and real-time data analytics to enhance the efficiency of campus operational management.

She added that the IOC functions as an integrated control centre that consolidates various campus operational systems into a single intelligent digital platform combining AI, IoT, and real-time data analytics technologies, enabling monitoring and management to be carried out in a more proactive, precise, and data-driven manner.

“Through the IOC, various operational aspects such as campus security, energy usage, facility management, internal traffic, and environmental monitoring can be coordinated centrally.

“In addition, the capabilities of the IOC are further strengthened through the use of smart sensors and IoT networks installed throughout the campus.

“The data collected will be analysed in real time to enable the management to make immediate decisions, including during emergencies,” she added.

Meanwhile, UMPSA also achieved a proud milestone when it was recognised as the first public university in Malaysia to receive the Green Data Centre Certification at the Titanium Plus Tier level, demonstrating its commitment towards sustainable technology practices.

The organisation of the programme is also aligned with the Mydigital@UMPSA Agenda under the UMPSA Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which aims to strengthen the university’s technological modernisation through an integrated and intelligent digital ecosystem.

Various interesting activities were held throughout the programme, including technology forums involving industry experts, digital technology and electric vehicle (EV) exhibitions, e-sports tournaments, and blood donation programmes that received encouraging responses.

The programme also brought together ICT directors from public universities, representatives from government agencies, industries, and strategic partners in efforts to strengthen collaboration networks and expertise sharing in the field of digital technology.
