UMPSA reaches out to 59 orphans and underprivileged children of Nur Iman for iftar

KUANTAN, 7 March 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen the values of togetherness and social compassion through the organisation of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme and a Friendly Gathering Ceremony with the Nur Iman Welfare Organisation for Orphans and the Underprivileged, Kampung Kempadang, here today.

The programme, organised by the Chancellery Department in collaboration with Yayasan UMPSA, was held in conjunction with the ‘The Beauty of Ramadan’ initiative, which aims to reach out to those in need and strengthen the relationship between the university and the local community.

Present to grace the programme was the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias, who also took time to mingle with the children residing at the welfare home.

Also in attendance were the Registrar, Dato’ Saiful Bahri Ahmad Bakarim; the Chief Librarian, Kamariah Gono; the Chairman of the Nur Iman Welfare Home for Orphans and the Underprivileged, Ustaz Haji Badrul Huzaini; the university’s top management team; as well as staff from the Chancellery Department and Yayasan UMPSA.

Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah expressed her appreciation to all parties involved in making the programme a success and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to empowering volunteerism and social responsibility activities.

“The presence of the UMPSA community at this welfare home since early this morning has brought spirit and joy to the 59 children aged between 5 and 17 who live here,” she said.

She also emphasised the importance of higher education institutions in reaching out to the community, particularly those in need.

According to her, UMPSA remains committed to engaging with society through CSR programmes such as this.

“We want members of the university community not only to excel academically but also to be concerned about the welfare of those around them,” she added.

The programme began in the morning with a communal work session to prepare dishes for iftar, followed by STEM activities with the children.

This CSR programme is part of UMPSA’s annual initiatives to ensure that the university remains close to the community while instilling the value of compassion among campus residents.

She also expressed hope that programmes such as this would continue to be implemented in the future for the collective well-being of all.

“Programmes like this not only bring joy to orphans and asnaf, but also provide an opportunity for the university community to share their blessings and enliven the spirit of the blessed month of Ramadan.

“UMPSA remains committed to implementing social responsibility initiatives as part of its efforts to engage with society and reach out to those in need,” she said.

Throughout the programme, participants also had the opportunity to interact with the children of the welfare home in addition to presenting contributions and breaking fast together.

This initiative is in line with the university’s aspiration to continue playing an active role in contributing to community well-being and strengthening the relationship between the university and the local community.

In addition to the iftar programme, UMPSA organised various Ramadan activities such as Singgah Sahur@Pekan, Masak Bubur Lambuk, Majlis Khatam al-Quran, qiamullail, and others.
