UMPSA strengthens close collaboration with Iwate University
PEKAN, 26 January 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its close collaboration in academics, research, and international mobility with Iwate University.
Recently, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr.Yatimah Alias, received a delegation from Iwate University led by the President of Iwate University, Professor Dr. Satoshi Ogawa, together with the Vice President (International Relations), Professor Dr. Yoko Matsuoka, as well as officers from the university’s International Office.

The collaboration between UMPSA and Iwate University, which began in 2009, has developed well, particularly through the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM).
Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah said that the visit marked an important moment in strengthening the bilateral relationship that has been established since 2009.
“This visit is an important step in expanding collaboration to cover more faculties and strategic fields at UMPSA.
“I truly appreciate their commitment to visiting UMPSA Pekan to tour the campus and discuss new areas of collaboration.
“UMPSA’s collaboration with Iwate University is not new, as this partnership has spanned 17 years as of this year,” she said.
She added that discussions also covered student and staff mobility, academic sharing, research collaboration, and the organisation of joint webinars.
“I hope that the continuous collaboration between UMPSA and Iwate University will benefit both institutions, the community, and the nation.
“We also hope that this visit provides a comprehensive overview of UMPSA, its facilities, and the university’s direction, thereby further strengthening long-term collaboration between the two institutions,” she added.
During the visit, the Iwate University delegation was taken on a campus tour to observe UMPSA’s academic and research facilities, in addition to holding discussion sessions on potential future collaboration.
For the record, collaboration between UMPSA and Iwate University involves various initiatives, including student and staff mobility programmes, academic and research sharing, the organisation of joint research webinars, and international recognition through the Iwate University Global Fellow Award conferred upon the late Professor Dato’ Dr. Mashitah Mohd Yusoff for her contributions to research development.
This collaboration will continue to strengthen UMPSA’s international networking in line with the university’s aspiration towards global excellence and the internationalisation of higher education.

Dr. Mohd Fairusham Ghazali, Dean of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology (FTKPM), Professor Ir. Dr. Ahmad Razlan Yusoff, Director of UMPSA Global Centre (UMPSA Global), Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Herma Dina Setiabudi, and Senior Director (Strategic and Risk), Centre for Strategic & Quality Management (PPSK), Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan.
