UMPSA strengthens research ties with Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)

JAKARTA, 15 August 2025 - A delegation from Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), represented by members of the Occupational Safety and Engineering Research Group (OSERa), OSHE Cluster, visited two key research centres under Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

The team included Dr. Junaidah Zakaria, Dr. Mirta Widia, Ts. Dr. Hanida Abdul Aziz, Dr. Wan Norlinda Roshana Mohd Nawi, and Nur Syafiqah Fauzan.

The morning session took place at the Research Centre for Process and Manufacturing Industry in Serpong, where the delegation was warmly received by M.Eng. (Head of Research Centre), Dr. Ir. Hens Saputra, M.Si. (Associate Engineer) Ir. Atang Sulaeman, and M.  Ag. Sc (Principal Engineer), Dr. Dra. Yenni Bakhtiar.  

In the afternoon, the team continued their visit to the Research Centre for Applied Microbiology in Cibinong, where they were received by M. Eng Head of Research Centre, Dr. Ahmad Fathoni, and his team.

During the sessions, Head of Delegation, Dr. Junaidah Zakaria and International Relations Committee, FIST, UMPSA Dr. Mirta Widia shared insights into FIST-UMPSA’s academic programmes, achievements, and research focus areas, particularly in Occupational Safety and Health and Industrial Biotechnology. 

Meanwhile, the BRIN team highlighted opportunities for collaboration, including several funding schemes available for joint proposals, as well as programmes such as Degree by Research (DBR) and Visiting Researcher (VR), aimed at enhancing human capital development in support of future cooperation between BRIN and UMPSA.

This official visit to the two research centres marked an important first step towards collaboration between FIST-UMPSA and BRIN. 

As a follow-up, an online collaboration meeting was held on 28 August 2025, led by the Dean of FIST, UMPSA, Associate Professor Dr. Aizi Nor Mazila Ramli, to discuss future initiatives and strengthen academic and research partnerships between the two institutions.
