UMPSA supports STEM-encouraged school students in Tuaran

TUARAN, 1 March 2024 - The management of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) provided support to school students and encouraged STEM learning involving Kampung Kiwatu, Kampung Batangan, Kampung Roun, and Kampung Serusop and surrounding areas of Tuaran, targeting efforts to inspire young people and B40 students.

UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the UMPSA Foundation, was present to provide advice and deliver calculator donations for high school students here.

Also present were UMPSA Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman, and Nurul Norasikin Mohd Nordin representing the Raudhah Rizqi Organization.

According to Professor Dato’ Dr. Yuserrie, this effort is to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda, especially SDG 4, to ensure quality education for comprehensive and equitable education and encourage lifelong learning opportunities for all age groups of various races and religions.

“This not only can produce skilled and high-calibre youth,but can also produce knowledgeable citizens and contribute to the future of families,” he said.

“Students will receive school equipment donations from UMPSA Foundation and Raudhah Rizqi Organization, including stationery sets, scientific calculators, and geometry sets.

“Through this programme, the university hopes it can be a motivation for children to start the school session with a fresh spirit,” he said.

This programme is part of the activities carried out under the ‘Program Kembara Prihatin@Negeri di bawah Bayu 2.0’ involving 60 UMPSA Kilau volunteers from the UMPSA Foundation Squad together with collaborating partners, namely Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Yayasan Sabah College of Technology (KTYS), and Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic.

It aims to provide support to the community in Tuaran through programmes related to technology, education, and the community.

In the meantime, participants also had the opportunity to stay with their foster families to strengthen relationships with residents of Kampung Batangan, Kiwatu, Roun, Serusup, Selupoh, Dungang Baru, and Labuaya.
