UMPSA’s visit to MMC explores strategic collaboration in research and innovation

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 August 2025 – The meeting between the delegation of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) today is set to explore strategic collaboration in research and innovation that will benefit both parties.

The presence of UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, was welcomed by the Chief Executive Officer of MMC Corporation Berhad, Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh.

According to Professor Dr. Yatimah, UMPSA, as a technical university rooted in engineering and technology, UMPSA always opens opportunities for university-industry collaboration in producing research that impacts society and industry.

“With the combined expertise of UMPSA and MMC, we can create sustainable, innovative solutions that will strengthen the green economy and smart technology in the country.

“Through the offering of a matching grant to MMC or Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd., various high-impact research projects can be developed.

“This initiative also supports the fields of renewable energy, advanced materials, eco-campus, Internet of Things (IoT), and TVET skills training,” she said.

Also discussed were the development of IoT for waste management issues and TVET education, including aspects of drone training and energy management.

Other matters included Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certification for waste-to-energy projects and the UMPSA Eco-Campus Project, which supports the low-carbon campus aspiration through green energy and sustainable management.

UMPSA is also the only university in Malaysia accredited with International Certification by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), United Kingdom, as one of the training centres for hybrid and electric vehicles.

In addition, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias shared the goal of the endowment fund to support globally recognised research and innovation activities and to help finance academic projects and university development.

She added that this initiative can strengthen closer collaboration networking between UMPSA and the industry in various sectors to open opportunities for collaboration in research, industrial training, job placements, and human capital development.

At the meeting, Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, a prominent figure in business and corporate leadership in Malaysia, shared his views on business and university financial generation.

Also present were the Members of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UMPSA, Dato’ Sri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali and Datin Nur Syarmila Shaheen; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr. Aida Mustapha; Director of the Centre for Corporate Communications, Mimi Rabita Haji Abdul Wahit; and Chief Executive of Yayasan UMPSA, Mohd Jamil Mohd Ja’afar.
