University should always be a highly civilised place
PEKAN, 11 February 2021 - Students’ Representative Council (MPP) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) must focus and be serious in realising the university’s aspiration as a driver and enabler of civilisation and intellectualism on campus.
Thus, in any situation, the university should always be a place of high civilisation.
This is in line with the students’ agenda in the UMP Strategic Plan 2021-2025 (UMP25) themed ‘Achieving Glory Through Excellence’ which will be launched soon.
According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff, as the students’ spokesperson, MPP must be rational and wise as well as a constructive partner to the UMP management.
“In the meantime, although the teaching and learning (T&L) activities are still carried out in hybrid mode via online platforms, the return of the students starting 1 March 2021 requires the university to be vigilant to ensure that UMP campuses are free from COVID-19.
“This challenge is indeed equally shouldered by the new MPP Session 2020/2021 to move together with the UMP management in facilitating all matters related to the campus well-being, student welfare, compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and others.
“In this regard, the new MPP, led by Muhammad Hisyamuddin Abdul Aziz, should be proactive in dealing with relevant issues because the university does not want anybody to be left behind in their study or neglected due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
He added, “Although our campus may be quiet from the zestful activities due to minimum numbers of on-campus students, I believe that the UMP climate will still prosper if MPP is creative and innovative in benefiting the online platform available to provide a meaningful experience to the students.
“The management of the university also expresses a heartfelt appreciation to the service, cooperation and contribution from the MPP Session 2019/2020, led by Mohd Fitri Zulkafli,” he said during the online MPP Appointment Presentation & Oath Taking Ceremony for 2020/2021 Session.
Muhammad Hisyamuddin who is the President of MPP Session 2020/2021 expressed his gratitude for the trust given to him to lead.
He said it was a historic moment to have the online ceremony through Google Meet.
“The new leadership also introduces a new slogan, ‘Salam Pemerkasaan Mahasiswa’ which will serve to provide changes through students’ engagement in the university decision-making process towards student empowerment.
“At the same time, MPP also serves as a key liaison between the students and the university in line with the aspect of student empowerment.
“Three directions have been outlined which are making the Student Consultation Assembly (Dewan Perundingan Pelajar, DPP) as a check-and-balance platform, establishing the source of power for setting a core-based committee, and empowering Student Complaints Committee (Jawatankuasa Aduan Pelajar, JAP),” he said.
The declaration of the new MPP Session 2020/2021 was announced by the UMP Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.
A total of 28 members of MPP Session 2020/2021 attended the Appointment Presentation & Oath Taking Ceremony recently.
