Yayasan UMPSA and MUIP provide Zakat Assistance and Educational Incentives for UMPSA staff’s children

PEKAN, 23 October 2024 – The Zakat Assistance and Educational Incentives Presentation Ceremony for Staff Children was recently held at the Banquet Hall, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Pekan.

The zakat assistance is a contribution of zakat funds donated by the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) to the Yayasan UMPSA.

This staff Zakat Assistance initiative, which began in 2020, has supported 263 zakat recipients and 136 care basket recipients, including staff with permanent, contract, and specialist status up to 2023.

This year, there were 79 zakat recipients across three categories, receiving assistance valued at RM400.00, RM300.00, and RM200.00.

Additionally, ten recipients received care baskets worth RM100.00 each, based on eligibility.

This initiative aims to ease the burden of living expenses.

Through the Yayasan UMPSA, the university has allocated RM20,000.00 annually to ensure the success of this programme for eligible UMPSA staff.

The ceremony also included the distribution of Education Incentives for the children of staff who successfully pursued their studies at UMPSA, Public Universities (UA), and other Institutions of Higher Education (IPT), both locally and abroad, for the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year and the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.

These incentives were personally presented by the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin highlighted the broader significance of zakat, stating, “Zakat is not merely a financial practice but a form of worship that brings blessings to our lives.

“With zakat, we can strengthen our bonds with each other and assist those in need, especially within our community.

“In this context, UMPSA staff not only fulfil their religious obligations but also play an important role in ensuring the continuity of education for staff children with great potential,” he said.

Also in attendance were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dato’ Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed; and General Manager of the Registrar’s Department, Tuan Haji Abdul Shukur Ishak.

It is hoped that every contribution, no matter its size, will bring meaningful changes to the lives of those in need.
