THE AUR 2025: UMPSA recognised as 163rd best in Asia, ranked 9th among universities in Malaysia
PEKAN, 23 April 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has achieved a proud milestone by being ranked 163rd best in Asia according to the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2025 (THE AUR 2025) while also maintaining its position as the top university within the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN).
UMPSA, formerly known as Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), now celebrating its 23rd anniversary, is the 16th public university established by the government, offering higher education programmes in engineering and technology, and recognised as the country’s premier provider of Advanced Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
According to UMPSA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, this recognition reflects the continuous commitment of the UMPSA community towards academic excellence, high-impact research, and international collaboration, evaluated through five key performance indicators covering research quality, research environment, teaching, industry, and international outlook.
“This excellent performance could not have been realised without the commitment of the university community and the productive strategic partnerships with industry, agencies, the public sector, and not forgetting, UMPSA alumni.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the UMPSA community who consistently innovate and introduce uniqueness in research offerings, strategic collaborations with industries, and the internationalisation of academic programmes through the strategic networking at various levels both locally and abroad.
“UMPSA remains committed to innovating and introducing uniqueness in its academic offerings through strategic partnerships at the international level,” she said.
She added that the university would continue to focus on solving real-world challenges through collaboration with global institutions, industries, and government agencies.
Meanwhile, UMPSA offers a range of technical programmes based on engineering and technology, as well as Advanced Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
For the 2025 evaluation, UMPSA improved its ranking from 166th best in Asia to 163rd best, placing it 9th overall in Malaysia.
Listed among the top ten universities in Malaysia are Universiti Teknologi Petronas (43), Universiti Malaya (64), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (86), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (103), Universiti Sains Malaysia (103), Universiti Utara Malaysia (127), Universiti Putra Malaysia (132), Sunway University (141), UMPSA (163) dan Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (173).
