3 UMPSA staff awarded Honorary Ranks under APMM

GEBENG, 22 July 2024 – Three staff members from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) were recently honoured with honorary ranks under the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM).

The Honorary Officer Ceremony was officiated by Pahang State Maritime Director, Acting Maritime First Admiral Haji Mazlan Mat Rejab.

Also present at the ceremony was the Head of the Management and Professional Studies Cluster, responsible for the duties of the Director of the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS), Acting Maritime Captain Haris Fadzillah Abdullah, along with other APMM officers, members, and UMPSA PASKAM cadets.

Leading the list is Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Nizam Mohmad Kahar, Director of the A.D.A.B Academy, Student Affairs and Alumni Department (JHEPA), who was awarded the honorary rank of Honorary Maritime Lieutenant, effective 20 March 2024.

Next is Associate Professor Dr. Izwan Ismail, Director of the UMPSA Career Centre (UMPSACC), who also received the honorary rank of Honorary Maritime Lieutenant, effective the same date.

Meanwhile, Saharudin Ramli, Senior Executive of the A.D.A.B Academy, JHEPA, was honoured with the rank of Honorary Maritime Associate Lieutenant, also effective from 20 March 2024.

Simultaneously, the Closing Ceremony of the Annual Camp and Strengthening of the UMPSA PASKAM Cadet Team Series 1/2023 took place. 

This annual camp, held for 12 days starting on 10 July 2024 at AMSAS, involved 41 PASKAM cadets.

The camp included a diverse syllabus covering search and rescue introduction, a study tour to the Cospas-Sarsat system and Malaysia Mission Control Centre (MYMCC), navigation training, legal and investigative procedures, arrest and search protocols, marine science education, and communication training.

Cadets also underwent physical training, such as obstacle course running, fitness tests, water confidence training, foot marching, and small arms shooting, to give them a comprehensive experience of what it means to be a Malaysian maritime officer.

Before the ceremony concluded, prizes were awarded to the winners of various competitions, including friendly evening performances, water confidence kayaking, a 15-meter precision shooting competition, and the PASKAM male and female cadet fitness test competition.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards for the best academic PASKAM cadet, the best male and female PASKAM cadets, and certificates of appreciation to the officers and coaches involved. 

Certificates of participation were also presented to representatives of the UMPSA PASKAM cadet team series 1/2023.
