UMPSA ranks 159th in Asia in QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025
PEKAN, 7 November 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has successfully strengthened its position among world-class universities, producing globally recognised academic programmes and quality research.
This achievement is complemented by UMPSA’s success in producing high-quality graduates who contribute significantly to the country’s higher education landscape.
UMPSA continues to excel, having been ranked 159th in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025, as announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) yesterday (6 November 2024).
This milestone places UMPSA as the 39th best university in Southeast Asia, the 16th best in Malaysia, and the top-ranked university within the Malaysian Technical Universities Network (MTUN).
According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Ts. Dr Aida Mustapha, who serves as Acting Vice-Chancellor, UMPSA is the 16th public university established by the government, offering higher education programmes in engineering and technology.
It is also recognised as the country's most advanced provider of TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programmes.
“For the 2025 edition, UMPSA has successfully increased its overall score to 44.9 percent, compared to 31.5 percent in the 2024 assessment.
“UMPSA has also shown significant improvement in the International Research Network indicator, rising to 110th in Asia, compared to 130th in the 2024 assessment.
“The assessment for the Paper per Faculty indicator improved as well, with UMPSA now ranked 133rd in Asia, compared to 153rd in the 2024 assessment,” she said.
Professor Aida further stated that this achievement is a source of pride for all UMPSA staff, who remain committed to excellence in teaching, learning, industry collaboration, impactful research, and academic partnerships.
“In addition, this ranking reflects UMPSA’s continuous efforts to enhance its reputation and excellence in the global higher education arena.
“UMPSA is steadfast in its commitment to improving academic and research standards while strengthening its role as one of the leading universities recognised internationally.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to all UMPSA staff for this remarkable achievement. This success is the result of collective contributions, particularly from academics committed to conducting high-impact research, teaching, and publishing,” she said.
The QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025 employs 11 indicators in its evaluation, including academic reputation, employer reputation, number of PhD-qualified staff, international research networks, and student exchange programmes, both domestic and international.
A total of 984 universities are listed in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025, with 142 universities being evaluated for the first time in this edition.
