50 KILAU UMP volunteers plant 400 trees in Tasik Chini
CHINI, 10 September 2022 - A total of 50 KILAU volunteers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), comprising students and staff of Next Green Pulp and Papers (NGPP), participated in the Tree Planting Programme in conjunction with the 100 Million Trees Planting Campaign at Tasik Chini, Pahang.
A total of 400 trees of Meranti Temak Nipis, Merawan Siput Jantan, Kasai and Batai were planted here.
According to the Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Industrial and Community Collaboration Division, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Nurul Hazlina Noordin, this programme was part of UMP’s efforts to support the tree planting campaign organised by the Pahang State Forestry Department (JPNP).
“This programme is also part of UMP’s efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by introducing the Alam@UMP Project under Yayasan UMP in collaboration with the industry to plant 5,000 trees within five years.
“UMP’s involvement in this CSR programme is meaningful, especially in achieving the goal of conserving the environment through tree planting activities.
“It can empower this initiative by conveying a message on the awareness of the preservation and conservation of natural heritage to all walks of life,” she said.
In addition, she said, this activity also contributed to the criteria in the GreenMetric UI rating.
She expressed her gratitude for the contribution of 1,000 saplings from Next Green Pulp and Papers Sdn. Bhd. (NGPP) for this programme.
Also attended the programme was NGPP Managing Director, Dato’ Lim Thiam Huat.
