Hasya Najihah receives Academic Excellence Award from the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP)

GAMBANG, 26 October 2024 – Hasya Najihah Mohd Ghazali, 21, who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.23, did not expect to receive the Academic Excellence Award from the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP), presented by the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari, during the Second Session of the 19th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony.

Hasya is currently continuing her studies at UMPSA in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours programme, in Year 1, Semester 2.

She was born at Tawakal Specialist Centre in Kuala Lumpur and raised in Kuantan, Pahang, and as the eldest of four siblings, she prioritises balancing her academics with quality time spent with family and friends, especially on weekends.

Her mother, Hazareena Saadiah Mustazar, 44, serves as an Operations Supervisor at Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd., while her father, Mohd Ghazali Masood, 60, is a retiree.

She shared that although she was less active in associations and sports during her diploma due to a packed class schedule, she never missed the opportunity to participate in some interesting co-curricular activities.

“Among the activities I joined were archery, golf, creative arts, and photography.

“In archery, I managed to secure second place in a team competition, achieving a high score in that co-curricular activity.
“Additionally, I took the initiative to become a group leader in work-based projects and group assignments for several courses,” she said.

She mentioned that these experiences prove that even with a busy schedule, students can still contribute and achieve success in co-curricular activities at UMPSA.

“UMPSA is also committed to providing various facilities that support student learning and development, such as a well-equipped library, advanced laboratories, and quality sports facilities.

“The learning approach at UMPSA is interactive and student-centred, integrating relevant curricula with the use of the latest technology.

“All these efforts aim to enrich the learning experience and make the process more engaging and effective,” she added.

Furthermore, she noted that UMPSA’s lecturers are experienced and dedicated individuals who not only teach but also act as mentors in research and personal development.

“This has helped me cultivate noble values such as cooperation, honesty, and responsibility.

“Overall, UMPSA provides a conducive environment for learning and student development, emphasising the importance of ethics and integrity in shaping quality individuals,” she continued.

“In fact, UMPSA is also committed to producing competitive graduates through unique learning and co-curricular experiences,” she added enthusiastically.

Additionally, she mentioned that the project-based learning approach enables students to apply theory in real-world situations, sharpen their discipline and teamwork skills, and enhance problem-solving abilities.

“This university also emphasises the development of soft skills such as leadership, ethics, and entrepreneurship, which are essential for career success.

“With these values, UMPSA graduates excel not only academically but also make meaningful contributions to society, preparing students to face the challenges of the job market.

“One of the unforgettable experiences, which I consider a significant success, was when I gained substantial knowledge and practical skills in the field of civil engineering,” she said.

According to Hasya Najihah, one of the most valuable experiences was taking the course Engineering Laboratory 2: Materials and Structural.

“In this project, my group and I built a steel structure, where I was recognised as the best group member by lecturer Ir. Dr. Nor Ashikin Muhamad Khairusaleh.

“Additionally, I participated in the course Engineering Surveying Fieldwork, where I performed measurements around UMPSA.

“I practised installing a theodolite and was tested by lecturer Gs. Dr. Syarifuddin Misbari to complete the task within the given time frame,” she said.

Both experiences not only enhanced her knowledge but also became fond memories that she will carry into the future.

Hasya consistently adheres to principles of independence, sincerity, balance, care, and determination in her daily life.

She stated that these principles guide her to become a responsible and ethical individual, shaping her future with confidence.

“As a student, a child, and a Muslim, my hope and aspiration is to remain determined to improve myself in all aspects to achieve academic success and contribute positively to society and my family,” she explained.
