Soo Mann Sian receives the Vice-Chancellor Award, gift for parents
KUANTAN, 17 March 2022 - It must be the dream of every graduand to attend the Convocation Ceremony after years of studying and receive an award at the 15th UMP Convocation Ceremony.
However, with the constraints of her mother’s ailment, Soo Mann Sian, 26, was willing to forgo attending the convocation ceremony to take care of her mother, who has cancer.
She was the recipient of the Vice-Chancellor Award and said that her mother’s health was more important than everything else.
“Furthermore, I am the eldest of three siblings.
“Even though I could not attend, I was excited and happy when I was elected to receive the Vice-Chancellor Award.
“I would like to thank both my parents who have raised me so lovingly.
“I gift this success to my mom and dad who have sacrificed a lot over the years,” said the graduand of the Bachelor of Computer Science (Computer Systems and Networking) with Honors.
According to the Penangite, she is also happy that she is now an engineer at iFAST Capital Sdn. Bhd. based in Singapore.
Indirectly, she is able to serve her parents.
Soo Mann Sian, who obtained a CGPA of 3.91, said she was very proud to be a UMP graduate.
She said that various hands-on skills have been learned at UMP, making it easier for students to transition into the professional world after graduation.
“In addition, lecturers also play a good role in helping inspire and share professional skills and knowledge,” she said.
She thanked all UMP lecturers who always ensured that students could fulfil the needs of the industry.
She added that there are no shortcuts to success.
She believes that the steps to achieve success start with setting goals first, then equipping oneself with diligence and high determination, and pursuing the goals with full commitment until one succeeds.
She further explained that success is not something that can be accomplished in an instant and maybe will not happen in a short period of time; sometimes, it requires a very long period of commitment.
“Naturally, we will face many failures in our journey towards achieving the goal but we need to always remind ourselves and not be afraid of failures,” she said.
