BELAGA, SARAWAK, 16 August 2024 – The UMPSA@Bumi Kenyalang 2.0 Kembara Prihatin Programme inspires school students to aim higher and pursue their dreams through various fun activities, organized in collaboration with Yayasan Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) volunteers and strategic partners, including the MARA Skills Institute (IKM), Bintulu, recently in Belaga.
Nearly 500 students from Long Gang National School, Belaga, benefited from donations provided by various organizations in conjunction with this programme.
Chief Executive Officer of the UMPSA Foundation, Mohd Jamil Mohd Jaafar, said the programme involved 24 UMPSA students and alumni, along with 12 IKM students.
"In addition to academic activities, the programme provided assistance with dormitory equipment, Care Aid Kits for staff, essential school supplies, and the installation of solar panels," he said.
The UMPSA Prihatin Kembara Programme also received support from the EZ Prihatin Foundation, the Kubra Foundation, PEKEMA, and Pelangi Publishing Regional Development Community Berhad (RDC).
The Headmaster of Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Gang, Jimmie Jonical Bilong, expressed his gratitude to UMPSA for visiting the school.
"Various activities were carried out over four days, involving all the students at the school. I could see the joy in the students’ faces as they interacted with the volunteers and received donations of dormitory equipment," he said.
"I hope that programmes like this will continue in the future to support school students in the more remote areas," he added.
He further explained that the activities organized by UMPSA volunteers and partners provided significant benefits to the students, including learning workshops and community engagement programmes.
Yayasan UMPSA volunteers also engaged students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bakun through activities like the Inspire programme, focusing on key values such as cooperation, leadership, and wisdom.
Additionally, an Inspire and motivational programme, as well as an academic exhibition, gave students exposure to various fields at the university level.
This programme is part of the broader effort to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, particularly SDG 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all people, regardless of race or religion.
