UMPSA expands its cooperation network to Japan
TSU MIE, JAPAN, 27 June 2024 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) has taken a significant step in expanding its cooperation network to Japan by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mie University.
Representing UMPSA at the MoU signing ceremony were Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan, Dean of the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronics Engineering Technology (FTKPM), and Professor Dr. Mohd Zuki Salleh, Dean of the Mathematical Sciences Centre (PSM).
Mie University was represented by its President, Professor Dr. Ito Masaaki, the Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, Professor Dr. Kazuo Mori, the Director of the Centre for International Education and Research, Professor Dr. Satoshi Kaneko, and Special Vice President (Education), Professor Dr. Masataka Kubo.
Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan highlighted that the partnership aims to foster collaboration in research and facilitate student and lecturer exchanges.
"In addition, we discussed the feasibility of a dual degree programme with Mie University. Through this collaboration, we hope to provide our students with the opportunity to study in Japan, enhancing their language skills and academic knowledge.
“This will also enable our lecturers to refine their teaching and learning methods, especially in Engineering and Technology," he said.
The UMPSA delegation also visited the Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) in Tokyo to discuss plans for a dual degree programme.
This discussion was attended by Professor Dr. Hitoshi Nakamura, Deputy President of SIT, Yutaka Furuya, Deputy Director of the International Service Office, and Maejima Yuya, an officer from the Student Affairs Division.
"The dual degree programme with SIT is part of UMPSA's academic excellence initiatives, following the MoU signed by the two universities in January 2024," he added.
Professor Dr. Mohd Zuki Salleh mentioned that the UMPSA delegation toured the engineering, electronics, and robotics laboratories at Mie University to observe the facilities and technology in use.
"I believe that this collaboration will have a positive impact on both universities, helping produce more qualified and competitive graduates and attracting international students to study in Malaysia.
“Moreover, it will enhance the quality of education and research in engineering through the latest technological advancements," he said.
During their visit to Japan, the UMPSA delegation also had the opportunity to visit the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo.
They were welcomed by Deputy Head of Mission Anwar Udzir, Head of Chancery Nora Azlinda Jaapar, and Counsellor (Education) Imran Yussof.
The delegation shared UMPSA's vision for successful collaborations with SIT and Mie University.
The embassy expressed its full support for UMPSA's aspirations.
