UMP and BJTU Strategic Collaboration in dual degree programmes
PUTRAJAYA, 28 April 2021 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Beijing Jiatong University (BJTU) China signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) for collaboration in the UMP-BJTU Dual Degree Programmes.
The signing of this collaboration involving the fields of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering will contribute to developing the country’s rail industry.
The online ceremony witnessed the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), Professor Ts. Dr Mohd. Rosli Hainin signed the MoA on behalf of UMP, and BJTU was represented by BJTU President, Professor Dr. Wang Jiaqiong and Vice President (International), Professor Dr. Guan Zhongliang.
Also witnessing the program, the Director General of Public Service, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Mohd. Khairul Adib Abd Rahman, Director General of Higher Education, Professor Datuk Dr. Husaini Omar and Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.
According to Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar, the expertise and experience of UMP and the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) in this technical field are relevant in contributing to the smoothness and accessibility of the goals to realise this programme.
“These dual degree programmes are a start of a new chapter for UMP and BJTU to strengthen strategic collaboration and open wider opportunities in the field of research and academic development of both universities.
“Besides that, the growth of the manufacturing and industrial sectors in Malaysia today requires more experts and skills in various fields of technology.
“In fact, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is also seen as a boost to the national education system,” he said in the ceremony held at the Zenith Hotel Putrajaya recently.
UMP has been appointed as the Focal University for the ECRL Industrial Skills Training Programme which is the leader of the ECRL Industrial Skills Training Programme as a result of negotiations between the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) and China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) since 2017.
It involves training programmes such as participant recruitment and registration, syllabus development, professional and industrial training, provision of teaching staff, training facilities, research and development, and supporting the employability agenda of higher education institutions graduates.
