UMP, Yayasan UMP seal partnership with MEC
KUANTAN, 6 July 2022 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Yayasan UMP entered into an agreement with the German Malaysian Engineering Community (MEC) to improve graduate employability through the implementation of the German Industry Employability Programme (GIEP) which will benefit students for career placement in Germany.
The ceremony saw the Chairman of the UMP Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman was also the Chairman of the UMP Foundation and UMP was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rosli Hainin signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) which took place at Zenith Hotel, Kuantan.
While MEC was represented by the President of the Malaysian-German Engineers Association (MEC), Ruzaidi Abdul Rashid.
According to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz, this collaboration could develop an international career hub as a one-stop centre for the development of UMP students and graduates related to international careers.
“At the same time, it can increase added value to ensure tech-savvy students align with Industry 4.0 Revolution (IR 4.0) especially in artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT).
“Yayasan UMP will also be instrumental in the successful implementation of this exclusive programme that will be offered to students who excel in the academic field.
“It is hoped that it will be an encouragement for students who attend UMP to take advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
He said that this career hub would devise additional curriculum to improve the proficiency of students and graduates in German, prepare students to apply for placements in Germany more systematically and structurally and strengthen the national identity of participants to serve the country.
He expressed his pleasure with this collaboration and hoped that this collaboration would be able to benefit both parties.
The networking of UMP programmes with institutions in Germany began in 2010 and to date, 181 UMP students have successfully completed a dual degree programme involving 108 students following the Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering and 66 students following the Bachelor of Automotive Engineering.
Meanwhile, seven students successfully completed Bachelor of Business Engineering.
The good relationship allows UMP to collaborate with big German industries such as Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW, Robert Bosch, Muehlbauer Technologies and Elektrisola which provide industrial training placement, staff exchange, industrial visits and job opportunities.
