Research works by UMP received recognition in Korea

Research works by Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) lecturers continued to receive recognitions following their wins of three gold medals, two special awards, one silver medal and four bronze medals at the Seoul Invention and International Fair (SIIF).

The fair was held at COEX Exhibition Hall, Seoul in Korea on December 9, 2018.

Projects that won the gold medals were ‘Next Generation Security Operation Centre’ (NGSOC), ‘Firefly Combinatorial Test List Generator for Lot Systems’ and ‘Efficient TIO2-SIO2 Hybrid Nano-coolant’.

The NGSOC project also won a special award - Special Award of Association of Polish Inventors and Rationalisers from Poland.

The project was led by Faculty of Computer Systems & Software Engineering (FSKKP) lecturer, Ts. Dr. Mohamad Fadli Zolkipli.

NGSOC is a framework that is established to facilitate an organisation to develop and manage an in-house security operational centre (SOC).

According to Ts. Dr. Mohamad Fadli, the benefit offered by the framework was that it could increase the detection of cyber threats internally and become the digital defence strategy of an organisation.

The project was developed together with SysArmy Sdn. Bhd.

The ‘Firefly Combinatorial Test List Generator for Lot Systems’ was developed by Dr. Abdulrahman Ahmed Mohammed Al-Sewari which also received a special award while the project ‘Efficient TIO2-SIO2 Hybrid Nano-coolant’ was by Associate Professor Dr. Wan Azmi Wan Hamzah.

Another project by Ts. Dr. Mohamad Fadli, ‘Safe Cyber: System for the Safety of Financial Transaction and Users Against Online Fraud and Cybercrimes’ won a bronze medal.

The silver medal was contributed through a project by FSKKP Dean, Professor Dr. Kamal Zuhairi Zamli which was titled, ‘Intelligent Interaction Test Suite Generator for Large IoT Testing’.

The bronze medals were contributed by Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Faiz Mohd Turan from Faculty of Manufacturing (FKP), Dr. Izan Izwan Misnon from Faculty of Industrial Sciences & Technology (FSTI) and Dr. Sharifah Maszura Syed Mohsin from Faculty of Civil Engineering & Earth Resources Engineering (FKASA).

SIIF 2018 attracted more than 600 entries that included works on invention, commercialisation, patent and technology transfer involving researchers from Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, China and Saudi Arabia.

Other agencies involved in organising SIF 2018 were Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA), Korea Intellectual Property Organisation (KIPO), World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA).
