UMPSA prepares to conquer Mount Kinabalu
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 September 2023 - The Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Expedition Team, consisting of eight climbers, including students, alumni, and staff, is gearing up to conquer Mount Kinabalu in the Mount Kinabalu Summit Expedition Mission.
This mission is led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed, and is scheduled to take place on September 18 and 19.
The team of climbers comprises students from the Faculty of Industrial Management (FIM), namely Muhammad Daniyal Burkhanuddin, Munirah Mahadir, Muvieanraj Anantakumar, and Yap Wan Er, along with Muhammad Hanif Sufian Hazman from the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA).
Also participating are Dato' Ts. Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim, a Trustee of the UMP Foundation, and UMPSA alumni Mohamad Azrul Adnan.
The programme was officially inaugurated by the Chairman of the University Board of Directors, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, and UMPSA's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainudin.
They presented the Malaysian flag (jalur gemilang), the flag of the state of Pahang, and the UMPSA flag to the climbers.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz stated that this group's mission to conquer the peak of Mount Kinabalu is a symbol of branding for UMPSA, signifying the university's commitment to excellence as it celebrates its 21st anniversary.
"The ascent of Mount Kinabalu, standing at an elevation of 4,095.2 meters, the highest peak in Southeast Asia, is indeed a mental and physical challenge.
“We hope this mission can be realized while prioritizing safety.
"It is also particularly meaningful as it coincides with the celebration of Malaysia's 60th Independence Day on September 16," he said.
The climb commences on Monday at Timpohon Gate, heading to Panalaban for an overnight stay at Laban Rata, and then continuing toward the summit of Mount Kinabalu.
UMPSA is returning to conquer Mount Kinabalu this year, following its success in the same mission in 2012 and the Mount Kinabalu Climbing Mission in 2017.
