UMPSA and Libya strengthen collaborative bonds for academic and research advancements

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 April 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to foster stronger ties with Libyan academic and research institutions through a significant meeting held in Kuala Lumpur recently. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Saleh Khalifa Algoul, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research from Libya, alongside representatives from the Embassy and UMPSA. Dr. Algoul was warmly welcomed by Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, and other university representatives.

During the meeting, Professor Dato' Ts. Dr. Yuserrie emphasised the university's commitment to deepen its partnership with Libya, stating, this collaboration not only strengthens our academic and research initiatives but also aligns perfectly with UMPSA's strategic goals. 

“We are particularly excited about expanding our expertise in chemical engineering, focusing on oil and gas-related programmes through our collaboration with the Libyan National Oil Corporation.

“Additionally, we are keen to explore new opportunities in computer science and expect significant mutual benefits from our joint efforts,” he said. 

Dr. Saleh expressed his enthusiasm for connecting UMPSA with more Libyan higher education institutions to facilitate further collaboration in academic and research projects.

The meeting highlighted the commitment of both UMPSA and Libyan educational leaders to enhance connections and elevate strategic cooperation.

Discussions centred on leveraging UMPSA's niche areas of specialisation to benefit both parties.

Currently, UMPSA hosts 15 students from Libya, and the university's engagement with the office of the Academic Attaché of Libya has been instrumental in exploring and expanding collaborative avenues to increase the number of Libyan students at UMPSA.

Also present at the meeting were Academic Attaché, Dr. Aiman Elmahmodi, Advisor to the Academic Attaché, Norhawaty Mansor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International Affairs), Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad Sulaiman and Director of the Centre for International Relations, Associate Professor Dr-Ing. Mohd Azmir Mohd Azhari.

All contributed to the fruitful dialogue and plans for future partnerships.
