UMPSA to explore collaboration with Chongqing University (CQU) in Civil Engineering and Construction Technology
CHONGQING, CHINA, 6 January 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) will explore collaboration with Chongqing University, a prestigious university in China that offers programmes in engineering and technology, particularly in civil engineering, construction technology, and environment.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of UMPSA, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias, this visit provides an opportunity for both parties to discuss potential international academic collaboration, particularly in offering a Dual Degree programme at the postgraduate level in civil engineering.
“This international collaboration will realise the internationalisation agenda in line with the UMPSA Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and its position as a strategic institution serving as an Advanced TVET hub in this region.
“The potential collaboration with institutions in China is to look at the expertise available in the country, particularly in producing talent aligned with industry needs.
“Besides opening wide opportunities to increase the number of postgraduate students in various fields at UMPSA, this collaboration will open more potential opportunities in joint research and international matching grants.
“UMPSA will continue to support and play its role in strengthening the nation’s civil engineering field in line with current and future needs related to infrastructure resilience, disaster mitigation, and innovation in construction technology,” she said, as she led the delegation during the visit to China today.
Also present were the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology (FTKA), Dr. Noram Irwan Ramli, and the FTKA Manager, Shahrizai Haji Sarif.
The UMPSA delegation was welcomed by the management of Chongqing University, China, led by Professor Dr. Guiven Liu, Vice President of Chongqing University, Professor Dr. Qingshan Yang, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Professor Dr. Yuhang Wang, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Professor Dr. Bo Yang.
Chongqing University is a leading global university ranked fourth in the world in Civil and Mechanical Engineering by US News & World Report 2025.
Furthermore, collaboration between UMPSA and CQU has been established for the past five years through the joint organisation of the World Sustainable Construction Conference (WSCC) by FTKA UMPSA.
