UMPSA, Hebei University sign collaboration to offer Dual Degree in Data Science and Big Data Technology

KUANTAN, 24 June 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to strengthen its international collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Hebei University, China, for the implementation of a dual degree programme in Big Data Technology.

The signing ceremony, held at Hotel Grand Darulmakmur, was officiated by UMPSA Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias and Secretary of the Party Committee of Hebei University, Professor Dr. Liu Bing.

According to Professor Dr. Yatimah, the dual degree programme is not merely a symbolic achievement but marks the beginning of a transformative academic collaboration between Malaysia and China in the pursuit of excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness.

“This programme will offer bilateral studies in the field of big data technology.

“UMPSA offers the Bachelor of Applied Science (Data Analytics) with Honours, while Hebei University offers the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Big Data Technology.

“This collaboration is highly significant in addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the big data field,” she said.

She further added that the programme not only strengthens educational exchange between Malaysia and China but also supports local talent development in line with regional economic and industrial needs.

“Students enrolled in this programme will gain dual cultural academic exposure, learning through various methods and enjoying global networking opportunities with international peers and industry players.

“Graduates of this programme will also hold qualifications recognised in both countries,” she added.

The ceremony also celebrated the strategic partnership between UMPSA and Hebei University, which has spanned 15 years.

Also present were the UMPSA Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Internationalisation), Professor Datin Ts. Dr. Mimi Sakinah Abdul Munaim; Director (Malaysia) of UMPSA Confucius Institute, Yong Ying Mei; and Director (China) of UMPSA Confucius Institute, Professor Dr. Li Lijun.

Meanwhile, UMPSA also currently houses the China-Malaysia Chinese Plus Vocational Skills Regional Development Center (Malaysia), a centre established through a collaboration with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) and Hebei University.
