UMP hosts HEI 2022 Women’s 7s Football Carnival

KUANTAN, 23 October 2022 – The HEI 2022 Women’s 7s Football Carnival organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) saw Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) as the host for the tournament which took place at UMP Sports Complex football field, Gambang Campus recently.

A total of 11 teams participated in the competition, with teams from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Kolej Profesional MARA Beranang (two teams), University College TATI, Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang (two teams), Sekolah Sukan Negeri Melaka and UMP.

The five-day tournament crowned Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) as the champion for the tournament’s first edition with their victory over Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang A (SSMP), which placed second.

UiTM took home RM4,000 and trophies while SSMP A earned RM3,000 and consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, the team in third place, UPNM received RM2,000 while UPSI in fourth place took home RM1,000.

The winner of the HEI 2022 Women’s 7s Football Carnival Special Award was Nur Syafiqah Zainal Abidin (UiTM) who scored two goals in the finals and emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with 12 goals.

The prize was presented by the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin at a ceremony attended by the Deputy Secretary of the Sports Section, Strategic Planning Division, Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Dato’ Dr. Pekan Ramli and the Director of UMP Centre for Sports and Culture, Aznorizamin Haji Ismail.
