Aizat Mohd Nasir, outstanding young alumnus, receives UMPSA 2024 Mercu Sanjung Alumni Hope Award
GAMBANG, 16 April 2025 – The commitment and outstanding contributions of a young alumnus of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Aizat Mohd Nasir, paid off when he was named as the recipient of the UMPSA 2024 Mercu Sanjung Alumni Hope Award during the Mercu Sanjung Awards Night (MARS) recently held at the UMPSA Gambang Campus Sports Complex Hall.
Even more meaningfully, he was also awarded the Arts and Heritage Icon Award.
Aizat, a graduate of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering programme at UMPSA, is currently serving as a Project Engineer at Zhao Yang Geotechnic, Singapore.
He is now directly involved in the RM5 billion Nenggiri Hydroelectric Dam mega project.
He expressed immense gratitude and joy for this recognition.
“It is an unexpected award and a great motivation for me to continue contributing to UMPSA.
“In fact, I never expected to be selected as the nomination also included many experienced and outstanding alumni.
“I am among the youngest alumni on the list of candidates this year, but fortune was on my side this time,” he said.
During his time at UMPSA, Aizat served as the President of the Resident Student Representative Club 4 (PEKA 4) for the 2023/2024 session.
Throughout his leadership, he actively organised various welfare and student development programmes, including leading an International Mobility Programme to Japan as the Programme Director.
The programme focused on three main aspects: Engaging with the Muslim community in Japan by donating 50 copies of the Quran to Osaka Mosque, conducting an industrial visit to Nishijin Textile, and holding an academic discussion with Osaka University on environmental sustainability.
One of the main challenges he faced during his studies at UMPSA was managing time between academic responsibilities and co-curricular activities.
However, with careful planning and clear priorities, he eventually succeeded in balancing both.
For Aizat, active involvement in various programmes during his studies greatly impacted the development of leadership skills and practical problem-solving abilities — skills that are now highly beneficial in his career world.
He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to his parents, citing them as the greatest source of inspiration behind his success.
He dedicated this success to his parents.
“They have always been my strongest supporters and have consistently prayed for my success.
“I hope that more members of the UMPSA community, both students and alumni, will continue to make meaningful contributions to the university in any form.
“Do not chase academic excellence alone.
“Join co-curricular activities, build networks, and gather experience,” he said.
He further added that all these efforts will shape us into more balanced and quality individuals.
“Always give your best for the best results,” he advised UMPSA students.
Also honoured at the ceremony were Syazaliyana Razanabihah Surahman, who received the Mercu Sanjung Inspirational Alumni Icon Award, and Ts. Wan Anwar Faiz Wan Nasaruddin, the recipient of the Mercu Sanjung Alumni Icon Award.
Both individuals were celebrated for their significant contributions in their respective fields and their strong commitment to community development and UMPSA.
