UMP student Nurul Ashikin shoulder challenge in Hanoi SEA Games
KUANTAN, 16 May 2022 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) student from the Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI), Nurul Ashikin Hussin, a 20 km walk athletics athlete, intends to bag a medal in the Vietnam Hanoi SEA Games which takes place from 12 to 23 May 2022.
She asked for prayers from all UMP associates and Malaysians to bring success and fly the Jalur Gemilang in Hanoi.
Nurul Ashikin was present with coach Muhammad Fauzi Sulaiman in a recent programme celebrating SEA Games athletes organised by the Sports and Culture Centre.
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Associate Professor Dr. Rusllim Mohamed and Director, Sports and Culture Centre, Mohd Aznorizamin Ismail before leaving for Hanoi tomorrow.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Rusllim, UMP associates are very proud of the achievements displayed by Nurul Ashikin who gave a full commitment to the mission to uphold the nation’s name.
“In shouldering this challenge, the university has always been supportive and sensitive to the welfare of UMP athletes to ensure that they perform at their best,” he said, presenting pocket money as a sign of the university’s moral support.
He hoped Nurul Ashikin continued to be high-spirited in making the country proud at the biggest sporting event in Southeast Asia.
For Nurul Ashikin, a native of Kuala Lumpur, there must be pressure, but she is determined to bring home a medal for the country.
“I hope that a year’s sacrifice in focusing on training and not meeting my family is worth it for me,” said the youngest of the six siblings.
She also thanked UMP for facilitating her study and the encouragement of her coach and the strong support from the family in realising her dream of representing the country at the SEA Games this time.
The women’s 20 km walk event is scheduled for 19 May 2022, starting at 6:15 am local time.
