Not just a degree, FPI UMPSA graduates now equipped with Lean Six Sigma Professional Certification

GAMBANG, 23 January 2026 — Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues its commitment to producing holistic, competent, and industry-ready graduates as the Faculty of Industrial Management (FPI) successfully organised the Competency Certification Programme: Lean Six Sigma@Yellow Belt involving undergraduate students of the faculty from 17 to 19 January 2026.

According to the FPI Senior Lecturer, Ts. Dr. Azian Ibrahim, the intensive programme comprised 20 credit hours with active student participation, demonstrating high levels of commitment and discipline throughout its implementation.

“The organisation of this programme is part of the faculty’s strategic initiative to ensure that FPI graduates are not only academically excellent, but also possess industry-recognised professional certification, thereby enhancing the employability of FPI graduates at national and international levels.

“Throughout the programme, participants were exposed comprehensively to Lean Six Sigma concepts and applications, covering both theoretical and practical aspects.

“Among the main focuses was the Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) approach, which forms the core of process improvement project implementation within organisations.

“Participants also learned Six Sigma Statistics, the use of Process Analysis Tools, and the application of Minitab software to support data analysis and evidence-based decision-making,” she said.

She added that this practically oriented learning approach provided direct exposure to students on the application of Lean Six Sigma in real industrial situations, particularly in enhancing operational efficiency, reducing waste, and improving process quality across manufacturing and service sectors.

“As recognition of participants’ achievements, the programme also included the FPI–UMPSA Yellow Belt Certification examination, in addition to the White Belt certification awarded by The Council for Six Sigma Certification (CSSC), an internationally recognised professional certification body.

“This certification provides significant added value to FPI graduates and increases employers’ confidence in the competencies and capabilities of UMPSA graduates.

“More proudly, FPI has also been officially recognised as an Accredited Six Sigma Training and Certification Provider by CSSC effective January 2026, enabling the faculty to offer Lean Six Sigma certification programmes that comply with global standards, thereby strengthening the faculty’s credibility as a quality professional training centre,” she said.

She also recorded her highest appreciation and gratitude to the Centre for Advanced TVET for its sponsorship and full support in ensuring the success of the programme.

“The strategic support has opened opportunities for FPI students to obtain professional certification without bearing financial burdens, in line with efforts to empower TVET education and the development of highly skilled talent.

“Congratulations to all participants who completed the programme with excellence, as well as to the trainers and FPI organising committee for delivering a well-planned, professional, and high-impact programme,” she said.

Overall, the organisation of this programme reflects UMPSA’s continuous commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically qualified but also strengthened with internationally recognised professional certification to enhance the employability of FPI graduates and meet current and future industry needs.
