Crown Prince of Pahang officiates Masjid al-Jazari and joins Iftar Jama’ie with 2,000 UMPSA community
PEKAN, 17 March 2025 – His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), officiated the UMPSA mosque, naming it Masjid al-Jazari, after the renowned 12th-century Muslim scientist and engineer.
This significant event was also attended by the Chairman of the UMPSA Board of Directors, Dato’ Seri Abdul Razak Jaafar, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias, members of the University Board of Directors, Trustees of Yayasan UMPSA, and the UMPSA community alongside the local community.
According to Professor Dr. Yatimah, the presence of His Royal Highness reflects His Highness’ concern and commitment towards the advancement of education and the elevation of Islamic values in Pahang.
“The UMPSA mosque, built on a 7.5-acre site, was completed after seven years of construction.
“The mosque began operations with its first Friday prayer on 5 July 2024.
“It can also accommodate up to 3,500 congregants at one time,” she stated.
In addition to the main prayer hall, the mosque is equipped with various facilities, including a women’s prayer area, a funeral management room, a seminar room, offices for the Centre for Islamic Affairs and Human Development (PIMPIN), and a spacious parking area.
Professor Dr. Yatimah Alias expressed her hope that the mosque would not only serve as a place of worship for the UMPSA community but also benefit the local community as a centre for unity.
“May the spirit of innovation exemplified by al-Jazari serve as an inspiration for UMPSA students and staff to continue excelling in the fields of engineering and Technology,” she said.
She also extended her appreciation to His Royal Highness for gracing the event and for His Highness’ continuous support towards UMPSA’s development.
The Crown Prince of Pahang also presented duit raya contributions from Yayasan UMPSA to 100 underprivileged UMPSA students.
His Royal Highness further witnessed the presentation of contributions from Yayasan UMPSA, aimed at enhancing education and student welfare, with a total allocation of RM6.206 million dedicated to various academic and welfare support initiatives.
These funds are channelled through various assistance programmes, including Scholarship Sponsorships, Zakat Aid, Living Allowances, Meal Coupons, and student development programmes designed to enhance students’ added value and competitiveness.
His Royal Highness also witnessed the presentation of contributions from Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP), Lembaga Tabung Haji, Maybank Islamic Berhad, and UMPSA Holdings Sdn. Bhd., which will be distributed to underprivileged students, asnaf recipients, and students from B40 families.
Meanwhile, showing concern for the plight of the Palestinian people, the UMPSA Staff Welfare and Well-being Association (SEJAHTERA) also extended a RM10,000 donation to the people of Palestine, who are currently facing a humanitarian crisis.
The event concluded with an Iftar Jama’ie attended by 2,000 UMPSA staff and students alongside the Crown Prince of Pahang, symbolising the spirit of unity and togetherness between the academic institution and the community in celebrating the blessings of Ramadan.
