UMPSA Foundation and TERATAI visit disabled and indigenous communities

CAMERON HIGHLANDS, 27 July 2024 - Volunteers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and the Pahang State Representatives' Wives Charitable Association (TERATAI) recently visited People with Disabilities (OKU) and the new generation of indigenous people at Pos Telanok, Cameron Highlands, as part of the ‘Kembara Prihatin’@Pos Telanok programme.

The visit was led by Yang di-Pertua TERATAI, Datin Sri Dato' Hajah Burhah Mohammed, along with TERATAI members and UMPSA volunteers in a nearby indigenous village.

Datin Sri Dato' Hajah Burhah expressed her full support for the ‘Kembara Prihatin’ programme and hopes it will continue in other locations, not just in Pahang. 

“I congratulate everyone on the success of this four-days, three-nights programme. Thank you also to our partners who helped make this programme a success,” she said.

During the visit, Azlan Busu Pendek, who is disabled, received donations of a wheelchair, daily necessities, and food. 

Additionally, four other recipients, new parents from a nearby indigenous village, received daily necessities and food. 

They expressed their gratitude for the contributions.

The ‘Kembara Prihatin’@Pos Telanok programme saw 52 UMPSA volunteers, including 27 students and 25 staff, camping at Sekolah Kebangsaan Telonok.

Also present during the visit were the wife of the Cameron Highlands Member of Parliament, Datin Dr. Rozana Kamal, Member of the Board of Trustees of the UMPSA Foundation, Datin Nur Sharmila Shaheen, Cameron Highlands District Officer, Tuan Haji Syed Ahmad Khairulanwar Alyahya Syed Abdul Rahman, and Chief Executive of the UMPSA Foundation, Mohd Jamil Mohd Jaafar.

The programme received support from the TERATAI Association, UMPSA Foundation, UMPSA Women's Association (Matahari), PEKEMA Foundation, Cameron Highlands Parliament, Rainbow Girl, Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA), Cameron Highlands District Council, Cameron Highlands Development Corporation, Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR), and the SK Telanok community.
