Elisha’s dream for fast track PhD fuels her to strive for the Dean’s List Award every semester
GAMBANG, 21 October 2023 - The dream to continue her study to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) level through the fast-track route was finally achieved when she met the criteria set by Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).
For Elisha Claret d/o Wilson Dass, 23, this is a sweet victory after all her laborious efforts to get the Dean’s List Award every semester since she enrolled in UMPSA in 2019.
For every lecture, she would give her full attention and focus on the learning materials delivered by lecturers.
“In the first year, everything went well, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, my study was affected because it was quite difficult to get used to the online learning method.
“However, I am grateful to still be able to get the Dean’s List Award even though I only obtained a 3.6 GPA at that time.
“I then bounced back after a year and was able to get a GPA of more than 3.8 in the following semester,” she said.
Her blood, sweat, and tears were rewarded when she was given the outstanding student award by the faculty in 2022.
In the UMPSA 18th Convocation Ceremony, Elisha, a Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety graduand with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.73 from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST) received the Puspanita Community Care Award.
She added that the support from her parents also bolstered her determination for success.
“My parents often encouraged me to try because we will never get any results without putting in any effort.
“This advice has strengthened me to achieve my dreams.
“I am also lucky to have the opportunity to be part of the UMPSA community,” she said.
On this campus, she can study with ease because of the conducive environment, complete with various facilities such as classes and laboratories as well as lecturers who are very understanding of the students’ condition.
