Mohamad Nor Iman works hard to earn his degree

GAMBANG, 26 October 2024 – Taking on various jobs while studying, Mohamad Nor Iman Mat Nasir, 27, never gave up and successfully earned a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Mechanical Engineering (Automotive) at the 19th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).

For him, the most challenging moment was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he had to adapt to online learning from his hometown, where the internet connection was unstable.

Nevertheless, he was determined to continue attending classes to avoid falling behind in his studies.

He shared that after returning to campus following the pandemic, he began seeking opportunities to become more financially independent.

“In addition to focusing on my studies, I took the initiative to work part-time as a mechanic at German Autocare Motorsport, a workshop specialising in repairing European vehicles.

“Whenever I had free time outside my class schedule, I would help repair customers’ cars, which gave me valuable hands-on experience in the automotive field.

“I also took the bold step of offering mobile services for vehicle maintenance,” he said.

He added that, unexpectedly, this service received an encouraging response from students, university staff, and locals, not only helping him generate income but also easing his family’s financial burden.

“In addition to being a mechanic, I worked as a parcel delivery rider for J&T Express Malaysia, a logistics operator at Mercedes-Benz, and as a dishwasher at the Swiss-Bell Hotel in Kuantan.

“However, balancing work and studies was undeniably difficult, and my academic performance started to decline because I was focusing too much on work.

“I even lost my PTPTN loan eligibility due to poor results, which served as an important lesson for me,” he said.

Therefore, he reorganised his daily schedule more effectively, allocating time more wisely between studying and working.

“Eventually, I managed to improve my academic performance and completed my studies.

“During this time, I learned many things, such as time management, dealing with customer challenges, and developing more in-depth automotive skills.

“I believe all these experiences have prepared me to face the challenges of the working world more effectively,” he said.

He is now working as a ready-to-work protégé in the Construction Mechanical and Electrical division at WCT Holding Berhad.
