Sean Kendrick Soh receives VDI Award, now pursues studies at Oxford Brookes University, UK

GAMBANG, 26 October 2024 – Achieving excellent results with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.78, recipient of the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI) Award (Association of German Engineers), Sean Kendrick Soh, 24, is proud and grateful to have the opportunity to further his studies in MSc Racing Engine Systems at Oxford Brookes University (OBU), United Kingdom.

The graduate of Bachelor of Automotive Engineering with Honours (Joint Programme with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Germany) from the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology (FTKMA) also received the Sabah Excellence Award.

According to the Sabahan native, his greatest achievement was the opportunity to study in Germany through the dual-degree programme, which gave him valuable experience in the field of Engineering.

“During my time at UMPSA, I actively participated in various co-curricular activities, including serving as the Treasurer of the University Hochschule Community Club, representing the faculty in bowling sports, and engaging in volunteer work.

“In my opinion, UMPSA is an institution that pays close attention to student involvement and strives to adapt to changes in the times,” he said.

His father, Kenneth Soh Kim Wee, 65, is a retiree with extensive experience as a professional host, while his mother, Leanne Ann Susau, 49, currently serves as the Head of Communications Strategy at Cagamas Berhad.

Sean, who received the Dean’s List Award every semester, is also active in sports and video games and has a deep passion for Formula 1 (F1) racing.

“That’s why I chose to continue my studies in this field after completing my education at UMPSA.

“I hope that one day, I will have the opportunity to work in the world of motorsports as an engineer and raise the Malaysian flag there,” he said.

He also shared advice for UMPSA students to never give up and to always do everything well and to perfection.

“My advice to dual-degree students currently studying at UMPSA is to sharpen your language skills and always be prepared to face the challenges of studying abroad.

“What makes a university stand out is its students.

“Be a good and educated person because the world needs more good human beings, not just engineers,” he concluded.
