Pekan, 24 September 2020 - Concerned with the welfare of its staff, Yayasan Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has acted proactively by channelling zakat assistance to 41 staff who are eligible to receive zakat.

The Zakat Presentation Ceremony was presented by the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, Professor Ir. Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff in the 11th UMP Honorary Scholars' Talk at the UMP Pekan Banquet Hall.

Also present were UMP Foundation Chairman, Dato' Sri Md Sharif Shamsuddin, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Professor Dato' Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin who is also the Deputy Chairman of the UMP Foundation.

According to Dato' Sri Md Sharif Shamsuddin, Yayasan UMP is always on hand to help both students, staff, and the needy in line with the objectives of Yayasan UMP.

"We would like to thank the Centre for Islamic Religious Council's Zakat, and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) that have been giving back some of the Zakat paid by staff to a central Zakat MUIP UMP.

“As a result of the donation, Yayasan UMP distributes the money to students, staff, and the community in need.

"This year alone, three programs have been carried out, namely contributions to children with disabilities (OKU) in conjunction with Independence Day, and also contributions in conjunction with the Hari Raya Celebration," he said.

He said the UMP Foundation, formerly known as MyGift UMP was first established in 2015, to collect donations from various parties to be used as sponsorship of education, to strengthen Islamic programs, and to channel aid to those in need.

“With the UMP Foundation, it can now have a positive impact on the future of UMP in providing infrastructure facilities to students and community development.

"We hope that any company and the able-bodied individual can come together in helping the less fortunate," he said.

One of the recipients, Zulkiflee Haji Zainal thanked the UMP Foundation for its concern for the staff.

The father of five considers this contribution as a children's sustenance that can be used for the benefit of his children.
