4,535 UMP graduands celebrated in MKK17 starting this Saturday

KUANTAN, 5 November 2022 - A total of 4,535 graduands of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) will graduate at the 17th UMP Convocation Ceremony from 5 to 8 November 2022 at UMP Gambang Campus or now known as UMP Paya Besar.

It comprises 66 doctoral and 185 master’s, 2,509 bachelor’s and 556 diploma graduands and 1,219 UMP Advanced graduands who will receive their respective degrees and diplomas.

Of these, 90 are international graduands from 17 countries.

According to the UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin, the UMP Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Abi Musa Asa’ari Mohamed Nor will be present to confer the degrees and awards of excellence to a total of 199 master’s and doctoral degree recipients and 14 awards and prizes of excellence in the first session of the Convocation Ceremony.

“A total of 832 master’s and doctoral degrees recipients including 43 recipients of awards and prizes of excellence in the second session, totalling 1,031 graduands on the first day (5 November 2022) of the 17th Convocation Ceremony.

“Out of the total, 35 graduands received two degrees in the UMP-HKA Dual Degree programme in collaboration with the German Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) which is now entering its 12th year focusing on Automative Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering.

“Meanwhile, the collaboration with Hochschule Reutlingen (HsRT) is for Business Engineering,” he said at the press conference to introduce UMP graduands held at the UMP Paya Besar Sports Complex Hall.

Meanwhile, on the second day (6 November 2022), a total of 883 graduands will receive their degrees in the third session and 846 in the fourth session, totalling 1,729 graduands on the second day (6 November) to receive from UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie Zainuddin.

Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Yuserrie will also confer degrees on the third day, 8 November 2022 (Tuesday) involving 1,775 graduands; 1,059 graduands in the fifth session and 716 UMP Advanced graduands in the fifth session and 716 graduates of UMP Advance in the sixth session.

He also shared UMP’s global success when the Best Global Universities Ranking 2022-2023 by U.S.News & World Report listed UMP as the world’s best for five subjects, namely Energy and Fuel (161), Chemical Engineering (201), Engineering (256), Materials Science (634) and Chemistry (637).

Overall, UMP is ranked 922nd for the 2022 to 2023 rating and for the Asian ranking, UMP is ranked 269th and 8th in Malaysia.

In addition, 22 UMP researchers were listed as 2% world’s top scientists for two achievement categories.

Of these, seven were listed in the Career-Long Achievement category and 21 in the Single Year Achievement category.

This recognition is based on the data released by Elsevier BV, Stanford University based in the United States of America.

Various initiatives are implemented to ensure that graduates are competitive, including collaboration with the industry.

He said UMP and Yayasan UMP also entered into an agreement with the German Malaysian Engineering Community (MEC) to improve graduate employability by implementing the German Industry Employability Programme (GIEP) which will benefit students for career placement in Germany.

“This collaboration can develop an international career hub as a one-stop centre for developing UMP students and graduates related to international careers.

“This initiative can also increase added-value to ensure that students are tech-savvy in line with Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) especially in artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT),” he said.

The UMP Dual Degree Programmes involve the collaboration of German institutions namely Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Mannheim University of Applied Sciences (HsMA), and Reutlingen University (HsRT).

Meanwhile, the dual degree programmes with Kazakh National Agrarian University (KAZNAU) Kazakhstan, Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) China and Tianjin University (TJU) China will be expanded to the United States of America and Korea.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed who performs the functions of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Director of the Centre for Academic Management, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Shahrir Mohd Sani, Legal Officer, Marlina Mamat and Chief Librarian, Azman Abdul Rahim.
